Motivation and objectives
This project aims to develop a multidisciplinary/multifidele design methodology and novel diffuser concepts for compact and efficient organic Rankine cycle turbines, which will be used for energy recovery from the exhaust gas of hybrid electric drives and thermal management systems for aircraft. The goal is to develop validated design guidelines and scaling principles that enable the selection of the best turbine configuration
and its optimal integration into air-based ORC systems. To this end, the designed construction methodology aims at the simultaneous design of the ORC turbine and the adjacent components (spiral casing, diffuser) in order to achieve a significant weight reduction, while also exploiting the interactions between the components.
