Collaborative Research Center 871

Since 2010, the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 871 “Regeneration of Complex Capital Goods” has been bringing together scientific expertise from twelve institutes at Leibniz University Hannover. The focus is on processes that can be used to restore or improve the functional properties of technical components and entire capital goods. Civil aircraft engines serve as an exemplary field of application.

Regeneration of complex capital goods

The SFB “Regeneration of Complex Capital Goods” at the University of Hanover [...] was funded from 2010 to 2021 and focused on complex regeneration processes, which are becoming increasingly relevant, especially in the context of discussions about sustainability and resource conservation. The results achieved by the network will now be further developed for application in collaboration with various industry partners. To this end, a total of 15 transfer projects will be funded starting in January 2023."

"Packages of transfer projects [...] on this scale are unprecedented to date."

Laufende Transferprojekte am DEW

T8: Aeroelasticity in engine turbines

T8 investigates how regeneration-related geometric changes affect the aerodynamics and aeroelasticity of turbine blades and which excitation mechanisms come into play.

T9: Nonlinear aeroelasticity

T9 investigates the nonlinear aeroelasticity of a turbine stage and evaluates when linear models are sufficient or nonlinear multiresonance models are necessary.

T12: Non-compliant grid meshes

T12 investigates the simulation of complex geometries with non-conforming grids and extends TRACE with immersed boundary and wake models for flows near engines.

T19: Intelligent life cycle

T19 is developing an adaptive software framework that automatically captures turbine geometries and analyzes them aerothermodynamically, and is directly linked to the CFD solvers ANSYS CFX and TRACE for this purpose.
